Like all Rick Steve’s books, Rick does a good job of weaving a tale as he talks about a place. Sometimes reading the book maybe better than visiting the place..:-). Switzerland is an interesting place where 4 languages are spoken and the president of the country elected for a year. Perhaps that is what needs to happen in countries around the world.
Good Book. Mike Myers does a good job of describing Canada. For someone looking for a cursory and humorous read of Canada’s history, look no further. The book is also a memoir of Mike Myers and how far he has come from his humble beginnings, as a son of immigrants. I did not realize the large number of famous Canadians out there and the numbers of inventions that have come out of Canada. We tend to club Canadians with Americans from USA but we should not. We don’t do that with Italians, Greeks etc. so why the canuck.
Also Mike does what Canadians do best in this book, talk passionately about hockey and America (USA) bashing.
Decent book. Well written . Some of the statistics provided in the book was interesting to put it lightly. The book starts with a phone call that the author makes and ends with a phone call that the author is contemplating making. What was in between made interesting reading. The author quotes Ta-Nehisi Coates who I have read too. Unlike Ta-Nehesi Coates the author has lived a life of privilege so his experience talking about this subject comes across as a stark opposing view. There was one statement that I could not agree with the author. He thinks that the “white” reason to building a colony is “fear”. I think the real reason is “preservation” of the status quo and not to tip the balance.
